pring semester, 2006, Salih Yurttas (distributed objects professor at Texas A&M University) came to Adam Shaw and asked him to design a new web-application. It was to allow users to play and stream video media using an XML document, similar to the "Airtight SimpleViewer" which he had used in the past.

After the project had been presented to the class, Adam continued developement on SMP. It has since developed into a full fleged web-application, and is currently shifting from a video-player, to a complete multimedia handler.

About Simple Media Player
Simple Media Player is a versatile web-multimedia player. Designed with novice to average web developers in mind, this application allows the website owner, or blog writer to broadcast vast amounts of video data over the web without having to know anything about flash. All you need to know is very basic xml.

Designed with customization in mind, simple media player allows the author to adjust the color, image, videos, number of videos, thumbnails, and more, all in a simple xml document! When another video needs to be added, the author simple adds one more entry to the xml file and uploads it to the web.

Simple Media Player takes advantage of the On2 VP6 video codec, allowing for large resolution videos to be streamed to the clients on a lower bandwidth than flash has ever been able to deliver before!

Since flash media player comes preinstalled on most computers, the clients don't need to download any extra software!
